Types of stage

Stage (Theatre)

Arena stage and proscenium theatre.

Arena (in the round) stage and proscenium theatre.

Thrust Stage

  • Actors can be seen at more angles.
  • More immersive for audience.
  • Sight lines for audience can be compromised.

Traverse Stage

  • Increased audience space
  • More space for actors
  • Can be easier to create different scenes, through the space

e.g I Love You Because, Hard Times (personal project)

Round/Arena

Proscenium  End-On Theatre – similar to Procenium though the stage is not raised.

  • End on – will often have a rake to allow for sight lines.
  • Usually consistant sightlines
  • Easiest to stage for and work with.
