Scaffolding

Scaffoldinf wikkipedia

Scaffold is metal tubes usually steel (heavy) or Aluminium (lighter) which can be easily cut and joined via couplers to make various structures. It is often seen on the side of building which are undergoing repair. For events or theatre we can use it to make the skeleton of a structure which can then be faced and dressed to look like soemthing different.

The above images are essentially scaffolding structures which have then been dressed, they are festivasl stages which can be found at bestival.

Scaffolding tubes can come in various lengths and diameters, so it is worth noting this when ordering to ensure that you have the right fittings. The diameter is crucial here as the length can be easily cut to suit.

As mentioned there are various differnt connectors available

Straight connector
90 degree and rotation connectors

The nut sizes are usually 21mm but again this can differ depending on sizes bought.

I the theatre we can use scaffolding as lighting booms, and as mentioned stage dressing, extra rigging to name a couple of uses.

There are also metal plates used to give stability for uprights which are often referred to as Tank Traps
